| Kiev, a capital of Ukraine, with 4,2 million population, is metropolis with ambitious vision and sincerity at the same time. It is a city with the history of 1500 years, its legends and myths, temperament and confidence. It is rich in contrasts with wide boulevards, historical architecture and golden church domes which shine even when all the city is enveloped in a dense fog. It is still rich in post-Soviet heritage, agressive advertisement and cars which stop anywhere they like. As in most so-called „new money” cities, glamour is part of Kiev’s life. It is the city where in the hotel lobby sipping morning coffee you will catch a conversation between a showbiz star, tired from last night’s rave-up, sharing his doubts with his manager if a 300 sqm apartment with stained-glass windows on several floors will be enough or he should still aim at 500 sqm. apartment. While at supper in a different restaurant you will hear a conversation between two locals how to exchange timber blocks for oil. At the same time Kiev is a city which has grown tired of political fights and deep economic crisis and the most part of population will tell you that they do not believe in anything any more, though they still watch TV news in the evenings. |
